The patent covers MION2 (Multi-scheme chemical ionization inlet) innovative technology to chemically ionize a broad range of compounds without the need to change the setup and interrupt sampling. The radial design of MION2 enables the installation of multiple ion sources in front of a single mass spectrometer.
This setup facilitates the rapid switching between different ions for the chemical ionization, with switching times as short as 1 second! Depending on the ion chemistry chosen, different target molecule classes can be detected without the need for traditional chromatography. And with all sources off, users can detect atmospheric ions without interference from the ion source.
