New capabilities of MION2-Orbitrap Exploris system demonstrated

A novel method enables the analysis of a wide range of polar and weakly polar chemicals in gas mixtures.

Recently, our team developed a novel method for operating the MION2 Orbitrap Exploris™ system, enabling highly sensitive analysis of a wide range of chemicals in complex gas mixtures, such as ambient air. This approach uses high-pressure adduct-forming chemical ionization for detecting polar, more functionalized compounds, and low-pressure chemical ionization for less functionalized, weakly polar compounds, all in one system.

In the pre-print published on ChemRxiv, our scientists and engineers, together with our academic collaborators, introduce and demonstrate the concept of Multi-Pressure Chemical Ionization (MPCI). This method combines capabilities that currently require multiple mass spectrometry systems.
